Legislation Led To Fall In Workplace Deaths, But Illness Cases Continue To Rise
The ongoing, tragic impact that asbestos-related disease has had on so many lives has been put in sharp focus during the work to highlight the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974, according to specialist workplace injury and illness lawyers.
Since the introduction of the landmark piece of legislation designed to improve the health and safety of workers across Britain, statistical evidence has shown a marked decrease in the number of serious or fatal injuries being suffered by workers.
However, Irwin Mitchell’s specialist industrial disease lawyers have warned that while the legislation has proved effective in that regard, it has been less effective in terms of arresting the continued increase in the number of people exposed to asbestos and subsequently diagnosed with or killed by related illnesses.
The legal experts are now calling on authorities to not ignore that there remains plenty to be done to spread the word regarding the potential risks of asbestos exposure and the continued impact it has on so many lives every year.
