Expert Industrial Illness Lawyers Instructed To Find Answers
A daughter of former labourer who died after suffering from a debilitating asbestos-related illness is appealing for his ex-colleagues to come forward with information to help expert lawyers investigate whether more could have been done to protect him from the deadly dust.Gordon Dorsett, 84, from Hull, was diagnosed with mesothelioma in May 2012 after suffering with breathlessness which was caused by exposure to asbestos whilst working decades ago as a labourer and sadly passed away on 15 February last year.
His daughter Karen King has instructed expert industrial illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to search for answers as to why her dad was not warned about the dangers or better protected from harmful asbestos dust and fibres.
Gordon was employed as a labourer for metalworks company Ideal Standard, on National Avenue in Hull between 1943 and 1952. Before his death, he recalled that on a daily basis he would be working under pipes lagged with asbestos, or in the boiler house where the lagging was in a poor condition.
Karen, 55, from Hull said: “To lose my dad in such a short period of time after he was diagnosed was heart-breaking and to think that this horrible illness was caused by him simply going to work is unthinkable. He became withdrawn, lost weight and his appetite. In the last weeks of his life he had no quality of life. He was bedridden. It was so tragic to see him deteriorate so quickly.Expert Opinion
It can take decades for the symptoms of asbestos-related diseases such as mesothelioma to develop which can make it difficult to trace the relevant insurance policy or for victims to remember their working conditions.
“In Gordon’s case it has been over 50 years since his employment with Ideal Standard ended and we need people who may have worked with him at the company during the 1940s and 50s to help share any information they might have to try and help his family to achieve justice.”

“I urge anyone who worked with or knew my dad to come forward with any information so we can move his case forward and try and find some answers. We want to know why more wasn’t done at the time to protect him whilst he was at work against the deadly asbestos dust so we can get some justice.”
Anyone who worked at Ideal Standard with Gordon or during the 1940s and 1950s is urged to come forward with any information they might have. Please contact Ian Toft on 0113 218 6453 or email ian.toft@irwinmitchell.com and help secure Gordon’s family the justice he deserves.
