Court Of Appeal Sanctions Process To Support Victims
The Court of Appeal has approved a compensation scheme set up to provide financial support to victims of abuse by Jimmy Savile.
The decision to sanction the scheme created by a number of parties including the estate executor, charities and lawyers representing abuse victims, came following a challenge by the Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust regarding the plans.
Appeal judges were asked to consider the plans after the trust, which was a major beneficiary from the television presenter’s estate, raise concerns related to several aspects of the scheme.
Following a hearing where they analysed arguments last month, the judges dismissed the challenge.
