Irwin Mitchell Hands Over Cheque To Help Terminally Ill
Lawyers in the South West put their fundraising skills to the test over the last year to help raise thousands of pounds for St Peter’s Hospice.
Staff from Irwin Mitchell’s Bristol office took part in various fundraising activities including a monthly bake off between the legal teams, a retro sports day and dress down days to raise money for the office’s charity of the year for 2012/13.
The firm recently handed over a cheque for £6,750 to staff at St Peter’s Hospice in Brentry, Bristol and £2,250 was donated to the charity’s umbrella organisation - Help the Hospices.
Jonathan Peacock, Regional Managing Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Bristol office, said: “Irwin Mitchell’s national charity of the year for 2012/13 has been Help the Hospices, so everyone at the Bristol office was delighted to take part in a host of fun activities for our local St Peter’s Hospice because it’s a charity we really believe in.
“Many of our clients, particularly those suffering from asbestos-related diseases, have been cared for by hospice nurses and we see firsthand the difference their specialist care makes to people suffering from a terminal illness and their families, so we are really proud to have raised so much.”
St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult hospice caring for local people with life-limiting illnesses. Their commitment is to improve the quality of life of patients while extending care and support to their families and loved ones.
It costs over £6.5 million to run the hospice each year and other than a NHS contribution of 22%, it is totally reliant on donations from the general public.
Anna Ross from St Peter’s Hospice said: “It’s fabulous when companies get involved in supporting us and £6,750 is just a fantastic amount to have raised and for which we are incredibly grateful. It was great to see different activities planned to raise money and to see the competitiveness that emerged – especially in the bake offs!
“St Peter's Hospice simply could not continue to provide the services that it does to the people of Bristol living with life limiting illnesses if it was not for the support of the Bristol community and companies such as Irwin Mitchell. It is amazing to see what can be achieved when staff set their minds to it!”
