HSE Contacted Following Incident At Industrial Unit
Cambridge Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are working together to investigate a workplace accident at an industrial unit in the city in which a 47-year-old man was killed.
CAV Aerospace, which leases the unit, confirmed it is also helping officers with inquiries into the incident, which happened on Saturday afternoon (January 26th) when the worker was crushed by ‘heavy metal material’.
The man died at the scene on Newmarket Road, despite the efforts of medics from the air ambulance charity Magpas.
David Urpeth, Partner and national head of workplace injury at Irwin Mitchell, said it was vital that the HSE, officers and others work to provide a full picture of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He outlined: “This terrible tragedy is clearly a cause for concern and we hope that the authorities are able to work quickly and thoroughly to provide answers in relation to this.
“Such work will prove vital in ensuring that any lessons can be learned and may lead to health and safety improvements.
“We have acted in numerous work accident cases in the past, helping victims left with serious injuries and families who have lost loved ones to gain justice over the terrible problems they have endured.
“Like those cases, we hope in this instance that work can be done which will ensure an incident of this kind is simply not repeated.”
