Worker Suffers Serious Injuries In Work Accident
By Rob Dixon
South Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are continuing with their investigations after a 61-year-old man was injured in an accident at work at a Sheffield skip yard last week.
The Star newspaper reports that officers were called to Baker Street in the city after receiving reports that a man had suffered crush injuries after being struck by what was believed to be an unoccupied skip wagon at the Bradwell’s Skips site.
Following the incident, the man was taken to hospital and is thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
David Urpeth, the Sheffield-based national head of Irwin Mitchell’s workplace injury team, represents people who have suffered serious injury and illness as a result of accidents at work.
Commenting on this incident, he said: “It is absolutely vital that the HSE works both quickly and thoroughly to determine what happened in this incident, as well as what can be done to prevent the same problems from being repeated in the future.
“Work accidents can have huge consequences for both those involved and their families. As such, the loved ones of the man involved in this incident will no doubt be demanding answers over how he came to be injured.
“The fundamental priority of investigations must be to ensure that lessons can be learned which will lead to improvements in general workplace safety.”
