Law Firm Taking Part In Charity Boat Race
Intrepid fundraisers from law firm Irwin Mitchell are aiming to paddle their way to success at a charity boat race.
The 14-strong team from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office will be taking part in the Martin House Children’s Hospice Dragon Boat Race at Roundhay Park in Leeds on Sunday 20 May 2012.
Irwin Mitchell is one of 38 companies and organisations taking part in the annual event with trainee solicitors, associates, paralegals and litigation assistants all putting their best oar forward.
Competitors will be challenged to three races before the fastest teams battle it out in the semi-finals.
Team leader Pamela Mountain, a litigation assistant for Irwin Mitchell, said: “Martin House Children’s Hospice is a fantastic charity and we are thrilled to be taking part in one of its flagship events.
“All the members of Team Irwin Mitchell are raring to go and are looking forward to the friendly camaraderie and competitive spirit between the rival teams.”
Organisers hope the event, now in its fifth year, will raise more than £30,000 for the Wetherby-based hospice, which cares for children and young people with life limiting illnesses throughout Yorkshire.
Caroline Hudson, events manager at Martin House Children’s Hospice, said: “The hospice needs to raise £4.6 million every year so it can continue to provide essential palliative care, both at the hospice and in the community, to youngsters and their families. This would not be possible without generous and enthusiastic fundraisers from companies such as Irwin Mitchell.
“We wish everyone taking part in the Dragon Boat Race good luck and I hope the event inspires even more people to take part next year.”
To mark Irwin Mitchell’s 100th anniversary celebrations in 2012, the firm has launched a 12-month partnership with Help the Hospices.
The firm, which employs more than 2,000 people across its national office network, are organising and taking part in a variety of fundraising activities to raise money for the national charity, which represents and supports more than 200 member hospices in the UK.
The firm has a comprehensive community programme and is committed to being a socially responsible organisation. As part of its social responsibility activities Irwin Mitchell encourages its staff to take part in volunteering projects that aim to raise attainment in schools, offer pro bono support to those who need it and support vulnerable groups.
