Solicitors Take To The Water To Raise Money For Local Charity
A team of solicitors from national law firm Irwin Mitchell have ‘Taken on the Tyne’ and completed a competitive boat race to raise money for regional charity Disability North.
Toby Brooks, a Solicitor in the medical law team at the firm’s Newcastle office, led a team of 10 Irwin Mitchell employees who completed the course along the Tyne starting at Newburn Leisure Centre.
Irwin Mitchell’s boat raced in one of three heats on the day and after holding on to second position for much of the race finished in a valiant third. The team managed to raise nearly £600 for Disability North, a free Independent Living Service which promotes social inclusion, independence and choice for disabled people in the North East and Cumbria.
The charity, which organises the race day each year, provides free and impartial advice, support and information to anyone who lives with a disability.
Toby said: Funding for Disability North comes largely from charitable donations. We wanted to make our contribution to this great cause as they work with many of the clients we help in the medical law team at Irwin Mitchell.
“The race itself was very competitive and we are proud to have finished it. We love a good charity challenge at Irwin Mitchell as part of our efforts to support the development of the people and places within our communities. I’m sure the money we have raised will help a lot of people, including a number of Irwin Mitchell clients, who need support for their disabilities.”
Adrian Budgen, a Partner at Irwin Mitchell and Chair of the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation, said: “We have entered teams into the ‘Take on the Tyne’ event before and it is great to keep up the tradition of having the team take part.”
“We are extremely proud of all our charity efforts and this money raised from the boat race is going to a great cause in the North East. Our local office is proud to lend its continued support to Disability North and the support they offer to our clients who need help with their disability.”
