Corporate Specialists Advise On Charity's Acquisition
Irwin Mitchell’s Corporate team has advised on registered charity SheffCare’s acquisition of two care homes from South Yorkshire Housing Association securing the future of 80 places for residents.
SheffCare is a registered charity which now runs 11 care homes in Sheffield.
The charity has acquired two care homes in Sheffield, at Grange Crescent, Sharrow, and Midhurst Road, Fox Hill, from South Yorkshire Housing Association (SYHA) in a deal worth more than £1m.
Laurence Gavin, a Partner in the Corporate team at Irwin Mitchell and a specialist in public sector and charity commercial work, advised on the business acquisition. Graham Walker from the Real Estate team at Irwin Mitchell also advised on the property elements of the deal.
“SheffCare was already running the homes on behalf of SYHA under a management arrangement so it was a natural progression for them to take on the ownership of the properties,” said Mr Gavin. “We were able to use our specialist knowledge of working with third sector organisations in a number of areas of law to help bring this deal to a close.”
Duncan Bell, Chief Executive of SheffCare, said: "We are delighted to have been able to protect more than 80 much needed care home beds within the city. As the leading not for profit care home provider in Sheffield we knew it was in the city's interests to save both these excellent homes and we are both proud and delighted to have been able to reach an agreement with SYHA on their sale."
