Body Making Enquiries Over Demo
Reports that the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is to investigate the arrest of a man at student demonstrations in London last year has been welcomed by an expert at Irwin Mitchell.
The organisation has confirmed it is making enquiries over the arrest of a 20-year-old in Parliament Square in December 2010, after allegations were made that officers conspired to falsely arrest the man.
Three officers have been given notices to inform them they are being investigated for both criminal and gross misconduct matters.
Ifti Manzoor, an expert at Irwin Mitchell who specialises in police action claims, said it was vital that an investigation is completed both quickly and thoroughly.
He explained: “It is deeply concerning to hear that the IPCC has been approached over such allegations and I hope that the commission can work quickly to determine whether officers acted unlawfully in this case.
“While the police undoubtedly have a difficult job to do, it is vital that they always carry it out in the correct manner and work carefully. They must always be aware of their responsibilities to the general public.”
