Homes Evacuated Following Incident
Authorities have been urged by a lawyer at Irwin Mitchell to investigate what caused a chemical spill on an industrial estate in Kilmarnock.
Six homes were evacuated following the leak, which was reported to police at around midday yesterday (January 10th), while part of the A71 between Bellfield and Moorfield was also closed as a precautionary measure.
No injuries in relation to the incident, which was thought to be linked to the Mahle Engineering Systems site at the Whitehill Industrial Estate, were reported.
However, Elaine Russell of Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office has called on local police and other authorities to quickly get to the bottom of what caused the leak.
She said: “The handling of chemicals is always something that should be treated with maximum care and attention, considering the potential harm substances can cause to both workers and the members of the public.
“While very few details have been released in relation to this incident, it is clear that authorities need to carefully consider the facts in the lead-up to the leak and how it was caused.
“Such information could prove vital in ensuring that no similar incidents in which people are put at harm occur in the future.”
