Two People Killed In Hereford
The duty of care that lorry drivers have to ensure their loads are secure is likely to be put under the spotlight following two deaths, according to an expert at Irwin Mitchell.
A man and women in their 20s have died following an incident in Hereford in which a heavy goods vehicle shed its load of timber building supplies.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the deaths, while the driver of the lorry has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Stephen Nye, who specialises in helping those who have suffered serious injuries, said the incident is raised a number of concerns that the investigation will have to urgently address.
He explained: “Lorry drivers have a duty of care to make sure all loads are secured and if they are not the haulage companies can find themselves liable for any injury or damage caused by this.
“There are questions that need to be answered in this case and I hope, for the sake of the families of the victims, that these are provided as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.
“Any lessons that can be learnt from this must be, as this will go some way to ensuring that no one else suffers in a similar manner in the future.”
