“Don’t Quit, Do It”

Inspirational Amputee Footballer Was Told He Would Never Play Football Again

Ray’s story is one of determination not to let disability stop him from playing the sport he loves.

Aged just 14, Ray had to have his leg amputated. Despite medical experts saying Ray would never play football again, he was kicking a ball again within a year of the amputation.

With help from his Dad, who encouraged him to run around the park, Ray was eager to prove everyone wrong and show that he would still be able to play the game.

Ray’s desire to enjoy football has taken him on a journey from the park to the Amputee Football World Cup, where he captained the England team.

He’s also been instrumental in setting up Portsmouth Amputee Football Club, a team that we are proud to support and sponsor.

Ray and the Portsmouth team have helped to grow the profile of the sport, with one of their goals becoming a viral hit and being covered across the media, including on the BBC.

The Portsmouth team have also been involved in our Don’t Quit Do It disability sport campaign, spending a day with England legend John Barnes and launching our six-ball challenge.

When creating our new TV advert, we were keen for Ray to be involved. His commitment to his sport has been an inspiration to us and we wanted to be able to share his story.

“I really enjoyed doing the advert, and it feels great that I can hopefully inspire others to find themselves through sport!”
