Janet Sandford

Business Management

Head Of Talent & Resourcing

As Head of Talent and Resourcing for the firm, my role has four core elements:

  • Overseeing all recruitment activity including the graduate trainee programme
  • Managing our internal promotions and talent development programmes
  • Providing operational and strategic HR support to the Business Legal Services division
  • Leading the development of our diversity programmes within the HR team

What Inspired You To Get Into Law?

Having worked as an external recruitment consultant and head-hunter in my early career, I made the move into in-house legal recruitment in 2003 with a desire to have a more sustained and involved impact on the organisation I was working for than is possible when working externally.

What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?

It's the people that make my role most interesting, enjoyable, challenging and constantly changing! IM has a strong under-pinning philosophy of caring, both for its people and clients, and my role is about ensuring we maximise the potential of our people to support business growth and success.

What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?

Again it’s the people - we have a really strong culture of genuine friendliness, inclusion and meritocracy that I've found rarely elsewhere.

What Do You Do Outside Of The Office?

I try to keep fit with weekly pilates and zumba classes and enjoy pottering round the garden at weekends when I'm not out and about seeing friends and family.
