Irwin Mitchell Sponsored Charity Raises Awareness for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)

Irwin Mitchell is proud to sponsor Burning Nights CRPS Support, which has recently gained its charitable status with the Charity Commission.

Despite CRPS affecting thousands of people in the UK, there are only two charities in the whole of the UK looking to raise awareness of the condition - Burning Nights is now one of them.

CRPS is a neuropathic pain condition which can cause a person to experience persistent, severe and debilitating pain. The condition may develop after an injury, surgery, stroke or heart attack where the pain is out of all proportion with the severity of the initial injury. CRPS is known as one of the most painful pain conditions in the world.

As well as obtaining charity status, the founder of Burning Nights, Victoria Abbott-Fleming, who herself suffers from CRPS, has been named Aspire magazine’s Inspirational Woman of the Year award 2016 for her work in seeking to raise the profile of the condition.

Altaf Patel, a personal injury solicitor at Irwin Mitchell, is also a trustee for the charity. He said: “Receiving official charity status is a fantastic benchmark for Burning Nights to move forward and raise awareness of CRPS.

“Everyone at the charity has worked so hard since we first started as a support group two years ago in raising awareness of this often un/misdiagnosed condition, which is now becoming better understood as a result.

“A number of our clients at Irwin Mitchell go on to contract CRPS and we have seen the often life changing difficulties that arise when dealing with this condition so soon after a serious health scare. It’s fantastic to see that the work of Burning Nights has been rightfully recognised.”
