Irwin Mitchell Bristol Looks To The Future As Team Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

South West Law Firm Growing Year-On-Year

Leading national law firm Irwin Mitchell has today reaffirmed its commitment to helping even more clients across the South West region as it celebrates opening its Bristol office doors five years ago.

Irwin Mitchell’s regional hub – which delivers legal services to Bristol and the South West - opened at Castlepark, Tower Hill in the city centre in May 2010 with 15 staff covering personal injury, court of protection and medical law cases but now the team has grown over the years now with 53 staff based in Bristol.

Since then the firm has grown rapidly to become the top ranked firm for Family Law, Personal Injury, Court of Protection and Medical Negligence in both the Legal 500 and Chambers UK independent legal guides. The firm is also a formidable advocate for clients facing a wide range of legal issues including asbestos exposure, education law, public law, and human rights.

Over the past five years the law firm has demonstrated their lawyers’ expertise in many high profile cases in the national media; notably the Cardiff kidney transplant scandal where medical negligence expert Julie Lewis represented the families of two men who died after being given infected kidneys.  During 2014 public law specialist Polly Sweeney won Bristol solicitor of the year at Bristol Law Society’s prestigious annual awards. Family law and divorce specialist Alison Hawes has become a regular national media commentator on high profile cases.

Known nationally for its commitment to helping clients to access comprehensive care and rehabilitation packages, Irwin Mitchell’s regional managing partner Jonathan Peacock said the wide range of legal services offered and the firm’s approach in helping clients to make progress in their lives had been key to its success and growth to date in the South West.

In 2014, leading South West asbestos lawyers Virginia Chalmers, Isabelle Selley and Leanne Leighton joined the Irwin Mitchell Bristol office bringing their renowned expertise and knowledge to strengthen the law firm’s industrial disease team.

In the past five years the office has also worked closely alongside a number of local charities including Headway groups in Bath, Devon, Cornwall and Bristol, CP Plus, BRACE, Great Western Air Ambulance, Mercedes Curnow Foundation and Scope.

Having joined Irwin Mitchell in 1996 Jonathan Peacock is recognised as a leading brain and spinal injuries lawyer as well as his role managing the Bristol office.

Expert Opinion
“When Irwin Mitchell first announced its intention to set up an office in Bristol, we pledged to offer an unrivalled level of legal service to people across Bristol and the South West.

“We were already representing many people throughout the region and anticipated there would be a high demand for our approachable and caring attitude to providing legal services and we have adapted to meet that demand. We have established ourselves as experts across many fields of law and want to continue to provide a high level of service in the region.

“The team has grown significantly over the past five years and have been able to help many clients during our first five years in Bristol. In this job clients often come to us at a low point in their lives, whether that’s after suffering a serious life-changing injury or if they are going through a divorce and it is our role to help support and navigate them through difficult times.”

Since opening its Bristol office Irwin Mitchell has also opened new offices in Cambridge and Southampton.
