Environmental Health Officers Investigating Cause Of Outbreak
An investigation is underway into the cause of an illness outbreak linked to the Angel Hotel in Cardiff after 26 people reported falling ill.
Environmental health officials confirmed those affected are suffering with gastroenteritis and the management of the hotel has closed the facility as a precautionary measure.
Specialist public health lawyers at Irwin Mitchell, who currently represent 272 people affected by a norovirus outbreak at the Exeter Arms pub in Middlemoor, Exeter, have called for the investigation to be completed quickly and for answers to be provided to those affected by illness.
The outbreak comes just days after Public Health Wales confirmed it has launched an investigation into another Cardiff restaurant after seven people were confirmed to be suffering with food poisoning caused by the Campylobacter bacterium.
Amandeep Dhillon, a Partner and expert public health lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, who has represented hundreds of people affected by illness at UK hotels and restaurants, said:
If you or a loved one has suffered food poisoning due to poor hygiene standards, our illness compensation claims team could help you secure compensation. See our Food Poisoning Compensation page for more information.
Expert Opinion
It is concerning that a second illness outbreak has been confirmed in Cardiff within a small time frame.

“Although it appears these outbreaks are not linked, it is vital that any issues of this nature are investigated fully and those affected are given the answers they deserve about why they fell ill.

“Through our work representing those who have suffered illnesses following visits to UK restaurants and hotels, we understand just how serious the consequences can be. We hope this latest investigation is concluded quickly and reassurances are provided that any measures required to try to prevent incidents like this in the future will be implemented immediately.
