Specialist Illness Lawyers Call For Source To Be Identified As Soon As Possible
Public Health Humberside has reported that four cases of the potentially fatal Legionnaires’ disease have been identified in the North East Lincolnshire town since 27 July. Officials are currently investigating the cases and have yet to identify a link between the victims.
Specialist illness lawyers who have represented many victims of Legionnaires’ disease both in the UK and abroad have welcomed the swift investigation to identify the cause or causes of an outbreak of the illness in Grimsby to prevent the illness spreading further.
Irwin Mitchell continues to represent 17 people who contracted the disease from a hot tub on display in a shop in Stoke-on-Trent. Irwin Mitchell Scotland also represents 35 people in Edinburgh who are pursuing cases after contracting the disease in 2012. The Legionella bacteria is contracted by inhaling water droplets in the air containing the bacteria which usually come from artificial water sources which maintain a temperature in which the bacteria can multiply such as spa pools, faulty air-conditioning units and cooling towers.

Expert Opinion
We have represented many victims of Legionnaires’ disease both in the UK and abroad and it is a very serious illness – which sadly can be fatal.
“The immediate priority is making sure that the victims get the help and support they need to help with their recovery. The disease can have a long term impact on people’s lives and is particularly serious for vulnerable people such as the elderly.
“Legionnaires’ disease can spread quickly if not contained so it is crucial that investigations to locate the source or sources of illness begin immediately so that no one else contracts the disease.” Amandeep Dhillon - Partner
