HSE And Police Investigating Incident At Zaffar Engineering
An investigation has been launched after a 16-year-old worker died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in an accident at work.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Greater Manchester Police are now looking to determine the circumstances of the incident, when it is believed that Cameron Minshull became trapped in an industrial metal lathe at Zaffar Engineering in Bury.
He was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital following the incident on Tuesday morning (January 8th) but died shortly afterwards.
David Urpeth, national head of workplace injury at Irwin Mitchell, said it was vital that the ongoing investigation provides answers over the incident.
He outlined: “This is clearly a horrific and tragic work accident. Given the accident was a couple of days ago, there remains many questions in relation to how it happened.
“The HSE and police will now be working to build a full understanding of events leading up to the incident, as well as examining the safety measures and precautions which have been employed at the site.
“Through our work we see first-hand the devastating effect that work accidents have on victims and their families, so understand that there will be many people hoping for answers in relation to this terrible tragedy.
“However, we would also urge that everything possible is done to ensure that the information gathered in this investigation can then be taken forward and used by employers with a view to preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.”
