Lessons Must Be Learnt From Inquest

A personal injury lawyer has called on authorities in the north-west of England to take immediate action to tackle accident black spots.

According to the Oldham Chronicle, the inquest into the death of motorcyclist John Quinn, who crashed into an "out-of-control" car on the A672 Ripponden Road in May last year, revealed that a substandard camber contributed to the incident.

It emerged at the hearing that Oldham Council had not carried out planned road surfacing work before the incident. In addition, the remedial work was only completed several weeks after another fatality at the same spot.

Commenting on the findings, Jonathan Betts of Irwin Mitchell said: "This case appears to be similar to a number of cases we deal with in which a person is harmed through no fault of their own.

"We hope that lessons are learnt from this inquest and that local authorities undertake appropriate safety work at accident sites which are known to present a hazard to drivers, so that any further tragedy like this is prevented in the future."
