Two People Injured In Incident

A personal injury lawyer from Irwin Mitchell has called for owners of fairground rides to ensure that customers have the chance to enjoy their attractions without facing potential risks.

David Urpeth called for action after a ride owner and an inspector were fined over an incident in which two people suffered back injuries, after they were thrown from the Tagada attraction at Silverstone on the day of the British Grand Prix in 2008.

An investigation carried out by the Health and Safety Executive revealed that structural steel work on the seating of the ride had corroded, with the body suggesting that both the owner and the inspector should have been able to clearly identify it.

Commenting on the case, David Urpeth, who heads the team handling public liability cases said: “This is a prime example of an accident where members of the public have been hurt through no fault of their own.

“The failure of the owner and inspector to spot the potential dangers meant that an awful accident, which was wholly avoidable and could have led to more serious injuries for those involved, occurred.

“We hope that any ride or attraction owners and inspectors carry out their responsibilities to the highest standard, and ensure that nothing like this fairground accident happens again.”
