Young Woman To Receive £17.5m
The decision to pay £17.5 million to a young woman who was left paralysed in a car crash has been welcomed by a serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell.
Chrissie Johnson, 20, was left completely paralysed in an accident in Essex in 2006, which means she is now dependent on both a wheelchair and nursing care for all of her activities.
The record compensation will be used to pay for her care costs for life, as well as go towards funding for a new home designed to meet her needs.
Welcoming the decision, serious injury expert Colin Ettinger said: “Settlements like this often attract much attention, but there is a good reason why they are this size.
“Such compensation plays a key role in ensuring that those who have suffered life-changing injuries are able to move in the best way possible, with the best care, rehabilitation and specialised support.”
