Mr K worked for over 25 years as a maintenance engineer at textiles firms GR Herron and W&J Whitehead. His job required him to carry out maintenance and repair of the machines.
He worked 40 hours a day in an environment so noisy that he had to shout to speak to his colleagues and was not provided with hearing protection until 1995.
Louise Scott, his solicitor said “I am very pleased with this result, Mr K received a four figure sum after developing a permanent hearing loss and tinnitus caused by his exposure to excessive levels of noise.
"Mr K’s employers did eventually provide him with hearing protection but they should have provided it over 20 years earlier as by 1995 the damage had already been done.”
