In June 2006 Mrs Ross underwent cervical facet joint injections performed by an Orthopaedic Surgeon on a private basis at a local hospital. However the Surgeon negligently inserted the needle directly into her spinal cord causing cervical spinal damage.
Mrs Ross developed severe pins and needles in her hands and feet after she recovered consciousness. She developed weakness of her limbs and persistent continuous abnormal sensations throughout her body, particularly affecting her hands, feet and torso. These sensations include pins and needles, electric shock, fizzing and spasms. As a result of these symptoms she is disabled. She has been unable to return to work and now requires assistance with ordinary activities at home.
Mrs Ross successfully pursued a claim against the Surgeon’s insurer and received an award of compensation.
