Compensation For Foundry Worker After Burn Injury At Work

Compensation For Foundry Worker After Burn Injury At Work

A man has received £10,000 after a burn injury at work.

Our client worked at a foundry when he received severe burns after being splashed with molten metal.

At the time of the accident, he was melting manganese scrap metal in a furnace. The furnace became blocked and as he tried to unblock it, the metal suddenly dropped into the furnace causing a splash back. Molten metal, some of which was wet, showered our client, setting his clothes ablaze.

He was left with permanent scarring to his right hand, elbow, forearm, abdomen and leg.

The Health and Safety Executive investigated the accident and issued an Improvement Notice, making recommendations regarding furnaces and the associated risks in the workplace.

Settlement was reached before trial by Lisa Fairclough of Irwin Mitchell's Accidents at Work team in Sheffield.
