More About Me

What Inspired You To Get Into Law?

I often read the law section of The Times when people are asked that very question. The answers always sound half-baked. I may fall into a similar trap but, for me, it was nothing to do with Rumpole of the Bailey or Kavanagh QC.  It was more because I wanted to be able to work in a team environment advising businesses and individuals about things I knew about.  I also wanted to solve disputes, which sounds odd for a litigator but I have seen so many examples of complex disputes being solved outside of the court room that I know the importance of commercial good sense.  There is actually less law in a lawyer than you would initially think.

What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?

I think many lawyers will tell you that the variety of their work is what keeps them sane.   I think variety is important as well as the opportunity to advise and interact with so many different people in different walks of life.  Since our practice is so varied, we are luckier than many firms because we really do work with a startling array of businesses and professionals.   There is still something unique about being able to manage a process so well that you exceed the client's already high expectations.  That is the aim that I instil in my team.

What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?

I have always wanted to work in a firm that has an impressive reputation but is not complacent and so is humble enough to appreciate that it must earn the respect of its clients on a day to day basis. I have wanted to work in a firm that does not pigeon hole me into certain areas of law and allow me the freedom to develop into new areas of law as the market changes.  I have also wanted to work in a firm that appreciates that it is its people that make it what it is.  Irwin Mitchell ticks all those boxes and it is the first firm that I have worked in that genuinely understands the importance of all of these issues.

What Do You Do Away From The Office?

I live in London and I try and do pretty much everything that living in London allows me to do.
