Focus on Brain Injury | Serious Injury Team Wins Rehabilitation Award Once Again

For the sixth year in seven, we are proud to have won the Insurer/Solicitor Collaboration of the Year at the 2015 Rehabilitation First Awards. The accolade recognises our work on behalf of people who have suffered serious injuries.

Irwin Mitchell was recognised alongside insurer Aviva PLC because of our work in helping a client, Adrian Wright, who suffered a serious brain injury in an accident in 2006. He also suffered severe internal injuries and shattered legs which initially left him unable to walk.

Our specialist serious injury lawyers represented Adrian and were able to secure him a settlement, which is now managed by the firm’s Court of Protection team, giving him access to the funding and rehabilitation he needs.

Matt Brown, Partner from our Manchester office joined Adrian in accepting the award at a ceremony held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London. The ceremony was hosted by The Post Magazine. Judges looked for ways in which lawyers overcame obstacles and worked collaboratively to help clients maximise their recovery. Matt commented:

“Rehabilitation is vital if clients are to have a hope of getting their lives back on track after suffering serious injuries. We have a strong track record of delivering early access to the best rehabilitation, specialist support and therapies so that our clients have the best possible chance at improving their quality of life. We are immensely proud that our work in helping victims of serious injuries has been recognised once again in the Rehabilitation First Awards.”

Head judge and editor of The Post Magazine, Stephanie Denton, said:

“This entry demonstrated a healthy, rather than confrontational relationship, between solicitor and insurer where collaboration meant the insurer was able to take a refreshingly progressive approach and make interim funds available from an early stage when liability investigations were still on-going."
