Burns, Scars and Laceration Injury at Work - Compensation Claims

Claim compensation for burns, scars or lacerations as a result of workplace injury

Many people injured at work are left with scars as a result of either the original laceration injuries sustained, burns, or as a result of surgical procedures required following the accident at work.

A medical opinion is obtained to consider the injury itself and any further treatment that may improve the symptoms or appearance of any scarring. Any psychological reaction to the injury can be assessed and professional photographs can be obtained to clearly show the extent of the scarring.

Irwin Mitchell have a proven track record of dealing with cases involving burns, lacerations and scars as a result of workplace injury:

Cut injury at work case

A man was awarded £4,750 by his employers in an out of Court settlement after suffering deep cuts when he trapped his head in a freak fork lift truck accident. The man lacerated his ears after slipping in the fork lift truck’s cab and squashing his head between its roof and mesh. The accident occurred as a result of poorly maintained equipment as the fork lift continued to operate when the man had taken his foot off the “dead man’s pedal”

Burn injury at work cases

IM have acted for a number of clients who have sustained burns as a result of accidents at work. Injuries have been sustained when the worker has come into contact with hot materials and substances or as a result of suffering and electrocution.

£80,000 was recovered from a gentleman who suffered severe burns as a result of an electrocution. Electrical equipment was not fully isolated before the Claimant commenced maintenance work upon it.

An out of Court settlement was achieved for a gentleman who sustained caustic soda burns to his right arm and left middle finger leaving him with permanent scarring. The man was splashed with caustic soda from a bath where equipment was placed to be de-greased. The acid entered his glove causing painful burns. The claim was pursued upon the basis that he had been provided with inadequate personal protective equipment in the form of gauntlets.

A foundry worker was awarded £10,000 after being severely burned by molten metal due to a blocked furnace. He was left with permanent scarring.
