A former miner from South Yorkshire received a six figure compensation sum when due to an injury sustained at work.
He had been tasked by his employer to dismantle the wash house. Colleagues had already undertaken some work but a risk assessment had not been undertaken to establish the strength of the floor. Although our client was provided with a harness, he did not have any harness points to attach himself so when he fell through the weakened floor he suffered a fractured pelvis which affected his hip joint.
He underwent several operations but now has a permanent disability. He was absent from work for several months and as a result suffered from depression. He had counselling for his depression and made a good recovery allowing him to return to work albeit to a part time lower paid job. He was unable to return to his former job due to his permanent disability.
