Our client was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an asbestos related illness, aged 78.
He was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne and worked in the North East before emigrating to Florida, USA with his family in 1980.
He contacted us from Florida regarding a claim for damages against his former employers in Newcastle Upon Tyne, British Glues & Chemicals Ltd for whom he had worked as a foreman between 1956 and 1965. British Glues & Chemicals Ltd produced glues, fat/grease and fertilisers from animal bones which were collected from local butchers and abattoirs. He supervised works in the de-greasing plant and during the course of his work he came into close contact with asbestos lagged pipework. This was his only known asbestos exposure and the cause of his mesothelioma.
A claim was successfully pursued against the successors of British Glues & Chemicals Ltd, namely Croda Chemicals International Ltd.
An early settlement was achieved, without the need for court proceedings, for a 6 figure sum.
