We represented a man in legal action against Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council on account of his mesothelioma.
Our client worked for the council as a general foreman and later as Works Supervisor and senior manager. He was exposed to asbestos when supervising the cutting of asbestos sheeting, removal of asbestos lagged pipe work, removal of asbestos ceiling tiles and asbestos panelling.
Our client had a routine health check at the end of 2003. He had an x-ray and was referred to hospital where he was diagnosed, early in 2004, as suffering from the fatal asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma. Sadly, he died in August 2004, aged 59.
With the instruction of our client's wife, the claim against the council continued in the name of his partner. We were able to settle the claim by negotiation for £198,000.
