Claiming Compensation For Asbestosis
It has been widely known since the early 1900s that asbestos can cause major health problems to people who come into contact with it. Despite this, asbestos was used heavily in for much of the 20th century, particularly in the building industry.
One of the most debilitating asbestos-related diseases is asbestosis, which is caused by inhaling large amounts of asbestos dust or fibres. The disease can have life-changing effects.
- It causes fibrous tissue to develop in your lungs, causing chest pain and scarring the lungs;
- The sufferer is likely to breathe noisily, making ‘crackles,’ or find it hard to breathe (initially after exercise but possibly, even, whilst sitting still);
- Some people with asbestosis also suffer swollen, red and misshapen fingers, known as ‘finger clubbing’. It can take upwards of 20 years, after exposure, for a person to develop symptoms.
If you have developed this disease through your work, you may be able to make an asbestosis compensation claim against your employers, even if you no longer work for them. Your employer had a duty to protect you from exposure to hazardous substances, including asbestos.

We have a team of specialist personal injury solicitors who work tirelessly to achieve proper compensation for people who have suffered from asbestosis or other asbestos-related illnesses. We believe that becoming seriously ill just by doing your job is grossly unfair and, if you are suffering from asbestosis, we will fight your case for compensation.
Compensation can help you to pay for private medical care rather than have to wait for treatment through the NHS. If you have had to stop work due to your ill health, you can also claim compensation for your loss of earnings. If your life expectancy has been affected by your diagnosis, you can also claim compensation for that fact, as well as for the pain and suffering that you are going through right now.
We can investigate your claim and advise you on who may be responsible for your illness, how to claim and how soon you can expect to receive your compensation. Even if you no longer work in the same trade or with the same employers, and even if the company no longer exists, we will work hard for you to uncover the evidence that can prove a link between your exposure to asbestos and your illness.
Previous Claims For Asbestos Related Conditions
If you have already made a claim for compensation for asbestosis, hopefully your condition will not deteriorate. However, if your condition does deteriorate and you develop another asbestos-related condition such as lung cancer or mesothelioma, it is possible to return to court for a further award of compensation. Call us as soon as possible to discuss this if it applies to you.
