Five-Star Dominican Honeymoon Ruined By Illness

Experts Instructed To Investigate Cause Of Gastric Illness At Caribe Princess Hotel

17.12.2014

A couple whose honeymoon to the Dominican Republic turned into a nightmare when they both suffered gastric illness have instructed specialist travel lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of their illness.

Rebecca and Matthew Lott from Prestwich in Manchester were hoping for a romantic honeymoon at the Caribe Princess resort, booked with TUI UK Limited t/a Thomson Holidays, but instead suffered from symptoms including diarrhoea, sickness, blood in their stools and a fever during their holiday and continued to suffer with symptoms after returning to the UK.

The newlyweds travelled to the resort in June 2014 and both fell ill within the first week of their two-week holiday.

The couple have told their legal team that on occasions during their stay at the resort undercooked food was served, including raw pieces of chicken; flies were sometimes seen on food and birds were often seen flying around the restaurant.

Expert Opinion
We are now investigating how our clients became ill during their honeymoon at the Caribe Princess Hotel in the Dominican Republic.

“This was meant to be a holiday of a lifetime for Rebecca and Matthew who were celebrating the start of their married life. The illness they suffered ruined their holiday as they became extremely ill over a number of days and they continued to suffer symptoms on their return to the UK.

“We are now investigating the cause of the couple’s illness to provide Rebecca and Matthew with the answers they clearly need about the cause of their illness to allow them to move on and put the experience behind them. Gastric illness can have a devastating, impact on people’s health and the effects of it cannot be underestimated.”

Matthew, 28, an account manager, said: We’d had a perfect wedding day, it was everything we’d hoped for, but now our lasting memory of such a special time in our lives is clouded by the honeymoon, which was just a disaster.

“We were concerned about the conditions at the hotel and both of us suffered from horrendous symptoms throughout our honeymoon and even now we are still suffering from on-going illness which has had a huge impact on our lives.

“We hope that with the help of Irwin Mitchell, we will get some answers about what caused our illness which prevented us from having the honeymoon we had always dreamed about.”
