Gran Bahia Principe hotel, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
We have received reports of an outbreak of illness at the Gran Bahia Principe hotel, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for hundreds of holidaymakers who travelled in June/July 2007. Amongst complaints of gastric illness allegedly due to standards at the hotel, holidaymakers also complain of various other quality issues.

Tour operator, First Choice Holidays and Flights Limited have admitted liability to a Lincolnshire couple following illness at the Bahia Principe hotel.
The couple's eagerly awaited dream trip to the Dominican Republic turned into a holiday nightmare when they were both struck down with severe gastric illness.
Myles and Fiona Kennan from Immingham flew to the Dominican during October to spend two weeks at the all-inclusive Bahia Principe Hotel, described in travel brochures as being an 'exclusive, flagship four star resort and hotel'.
Gastric illness within days of arriving
Within days of arriving at the hotel both Myles and Fiona fell ill. Fiona's symptoms were so severe that on return to the UK she was admitted to her local hospital and spent six days in an isolation unit.
Myles commented: "The holiday really was a nightmare. We were both very poorly and are still suffering with recurring problems now. The hygiene in the hotel was appalling, we saw flies crawling over the food and there was a strong stench of sewage at the main entrance to the buffet area. So many guests were falling ill and were bed-ridden, both young and old.
"This was supposed to be a four-star hotel. We felt that the staff at the hotel and the travel reps did not appreciate the seriousness of the situation. We will not be returning to the Dominican Republic in a hurry!"

Specialist travel law firm Irwin Mitchell who has successfully brought the case against First Choice and Flights Ltd has revealed that the Kennans are just two of hundreds of British holiday-makers who have been affected by an outbreak of gastric illness at the Bahia Principe Hotel recently.
Francesca Sandiford, from Irwin Mitchell comments: "My clients' holiday was completely ruined.
"This is the second year running that we have acted for guests staying at the Bahia Principe who have been struck down with serious gastric illness. I would have expected the hotel to have introduced strict hygiene procedures following last year's outbreak however, sadly this does not appear to be the case."
