We’ve a team of expert lawyers who specialise in getting compensation for clients who’ve had sports-related injuries. Finding out who’s responsible for these injuries can be complicated, but our solicitors have considerable experience in investigating claims of this kind.

To find out if you can make a sports injury claim, contact our team for a free initial consultation.

Our sporting injury solicitors have helped people claim compensation after they’ve been injured in a variety of sports, including:

  • Football (from Sunday League to Premier League)
  • Motorsport
  • Rugby
  • Gym accidents
  • Snow sports (in the UK and abroad)
  • Horse riding

We may be able to accept your sports injury claim on a no win no fee basis. This means that you don’t have to pay any legal fees even if your claim is unsuccessful.

Sports Injury Claims - More Information

When you first contact us, we’ll set up a free initial consultation with one of our sports injury claims solicitors. They’ll learn more about your injury and how it happened, and we'll also discuss potential funding options with you. We’ll then discuss how we’ll take your claim forward and each step in the process.

Next, we’ll gather evidence using witness statements, medical reports, and CCTV (if available). At this point, we might employ independent medical professionals to assess your injuries and future recovery and care needs (if applicable). Their expert opinion can be crucial when claiming for a sports injury.

Once we’ve got the evidence, we’ll take your claim to the person(s) or organisation responsible. If they accept fault straight away, we’ll work to get you interim payments. These can help cover any costs you’ve already had but will be deducted from your final payment amount.

If the other party doesn’t accept fault or disagree with the compensation amount, we might need to go to court. We know this can be daunting, so we’ll try everything to prevent your claim from going to court. However, if we do need to go to court, we’ll be by your side every step of the way.

Your claim may still be settled out of court even if a trial date has been set

Read more about what happens if your case goes to court

Due to the unique nature of every sports injury claim, we can’t give you an exact figure until we know more about your case.

Once you contact us to discuss your claim, we’ll be able to offer more guidance and advise you on the range of compensation we expect you to receive.

When working out how much compensation you could be entitled to, we’ll consider:

  • Loss of earnings (now and in the future)
  • Expenses
  • Pain and suffering
  • Further treatments/medication
  • Any adaptations e.g. to your home
  • Care costs (if applicable).

For most sports injury claims, you’ve three years from the date of the incident. We always encourage people to contact us sooner rather than later, because the details will be fresher in your mind and evidence easier to collect.

There are exceptions to the three-year rule, these are for:

  • Children under the age of 18
  • People who lack mental capacity.

If the person you’re claiming on behalf of falls into one of the above categories, contact us to discuss the relevant time limits.

Yes, most of our sports injury claims are made using no win no fee agreements. If you use one of these agreements, there’s no financial risk to you when you make a claim.

If we think you’re best supported by a no win no fee agreement, we’ll explain the process clearly. This involves setting up an insurance policy that’ll protect you, at no cost to you. You’ll only have to pay anything when your claim is successful – your opponent will pay most of our fees.

Please visit our no win no fee page for more information on how it works.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can cause sports injuries?

Sports injuries can happen in a variety of ways, and sometimes they’re no one’s fault. However, this isn’t always the case. We could help you make a claim if your sports injury was caused by:

  • A reckless or late tackle
  • A deliberate assault (by another athlete, player or spectator)
  • Faulty equipment
  • Dangerous ground conditions
  • Bad advice by a trainer/coach
  • Inadequate training (e.g. on how to safely use equipment)
  • A poorly maintained venue/stadium.

If your injury is the result of someone else’s negligent or dangerous behaviour, we could help you make a compensation claim and access the rehabilitation you need to move forward with your life.

If you’re interested in making a sports injury claim, we encourage you to get in touch as soon as possible so we can start looking into your case. You can contact us online to start your claim.

Who will my sports injury claim be against?

We could help you make a sports injury claim against:

  • The organiser of a sporting event
  • The owner of a sports ground/facility
  • Match officials
  • Medical staff (if they failed to detect an injury)
  • Spectators
  • Teachers (if a child is injured during PE at school)

To find out if you have a sports injury claim, contact our team today on contact us online to organise a free initial consultation.

Where can sports injuries happen?

Sports can be played almost anywhere, which means your sports injury could happen in a variety of places. However, no matter where it occurred, we could help you make a claim.

We’ve previously represented clients who have been suffered sports injuries:

  • At work
  • At school, college or university
  • On private property
  • At council-owned or public facilities.

Your sports injury may have also happened because the place where you were training or playing wasn’t maintained to an adequate standard. We could help you make a claim if you were injured because of:

  • Bad ground conditions/wet playing surfaces
  • Badly maintained/faulty equipment
  • Incorrect protective equipment being provided for weather conditions
  • Obstacles not being cleared away (litter, water spills, equipment).
