#SaferJourneys This Summer
With thousands of cyclists heading out on UK roads morning and night, our attention has turned to making their journeys as safe as possible.
Whether you use a bike for your daily commute to work, a family ride in the park or to race professionally you must be switched on and aware of any dangers so you can concentrate on worry free cycling.
But it’s not just about cyclists; pedestrians, car, motorcycle and lorry users all have a responsibility to be aware of bike riders on the road and understand the role they must play in keeping everyone safe.
Throughout the summer we’ll be sharing a whole host of cycling-related activity to remind everyone to stay safe, whenever and wherever they are on their bike.
The Tour Of Cambridgeshire
Irwin Mitchell is proudly sponsoring this year’s Tour of Cambridgeshire (ToC) to help promote a safety first approach to cycling along with the fitness, health and social benefits that come with cycling.
The mass participation cycling festival takes place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 June 2016. The event is being held at the Peterborough Arena and Showground and the cycling will take place on fully closed roads throughout north Cambridgeshire.
ToC comprises of two huge races; a Chrono on the Saturday and a Gran Fondo on the Sunday but before that the event kicks off with a colour fun run and party on the Friday night.
Over 8000 riders are expected over the weekend to ride the Chrono, an individual time trial or the Gran Fondo, the cycling equivalent of a big city marathon which caters for both elite athletes at the front and those simply having fun and raising money nearer the back.
The Chrono and the Gran Fondo are both part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, qualifier events for the UCI World Amateur Road Championships. The first 25% in each age / gender group will qualify in what promises to be a weekend full of tension.
They’ll also be youth and disability cycling, music, food and plenty of entertainment taking place. If you’re into your cycling then it simply is an event not to miss.
We understand the impact that road accidents can have on cyclists and their families and believe that more needs to be done to raise awareness of some of the safety issues and rules around cycling on UK roads.
Using traffic regulations and the Highway Code, we’ve handpicked eight questions as part of a quick interactive quiz.
Take it now to see how geared up you are when it comes to cycle safety and don’t forgot to share your results.
