Nottingham maternity services lawyer urges families to contact Ockenden Review team ahead of deadline
We’re supporting families with concerns over maternity care received at Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital in Nottingham, as the largest maternity investigation in NHS history continues.
Donna Ockenden Nottingham Review background
As part of the independent review into maternity care in the city, Donna Ockenden and her team are looking into maternal deaths from 2006 and other maternity failures from 2012.
The independent review started in September 2022 and is currently investigating the experiences of more than 2,000 families whose lives have been impacted. The review is looking into care connected to stillbirths, neo-natal deaths and maternal deaths, as well as injuries to babies as and mums during labour.
Deadline for families to ask to be included in review
Families can come forward and ask that their case is included in the independent review.
If you’ve had a personal experience at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and would like this to be looked at as part of the review, the deadline to do this is this Saturday, 31 May.
The review team will then examine requests to establish whether they meet the criteria to be included as part of the Ockenden review.
Medical negligence lawyers supporting families
Our clients are concerned about missed opportunities to diagnose conditions during pregnancy, how their deliveries were managed and the life-changing injuries suffered by them and/or their children.
The circumstances surrounding issues connected to maternity care in Nottingham are deeply tragic and distressing. Behind every case, there’s a family that has experienced unimaginable pain, loss, and trauma.
As a specialist medical negligence lawyers my colleagues and I are determined to support those families we represent, not only to ensure their questions are answered, but where appropriate, they also receive compensation so they can access the specialist support they require, or in terms of a birth injury, the life-long therapies and rehabilitation they need.
How to contact the Ockenden Review team
To report your concerns, you can contact the review team via email at nottsreview@donnaockenden.com or by phone on 01243 786993.
After 31 May, no new cases will be added to the review, but Ms Ockenden has stated that families with cases after this date will still be signposted for support, and serious cases will be reported to chief executive of the Trust.
One of the support services available is the Family Psychological Support Service.
Conclusion
I welcome the continued efforts of Ms Ockenden to bring about meaningful change for safer maternity care and answer the questions of many families.
I’d urge families wanting to have their voices heard to ensure they contact the team. In signing up to the review they will be feeding into any actions and recommendations made to help improve the safety, quality and equality of maternity care and the handling of concerns in Nottingham.
They will be helping to bring about positive change so that others don’t have to go through what they have.
The findings of the review are due to be published in June 2026.
