In March 2016, I was nearing the end of my A-Level studies at Sixth Form. I visited several university campuses, but decided quickly that this wasn’t the right option for me.
I have tenacity and a strong work ethic, and I knew that an apprenticeship with Irwin Mitchell would give me the experience I needed.
Working At Irwin Mitchell
I’m now an apprentice paralegal in the Commercial Litigation Department. I work mainly on breach of contract and property claims, combining practical and academic learning.
I chose Irwin Mitchell because of their professionalism, strong values and dedication to their apprentices.
I've gained first-hand experience working in legal teams, helping to deliver an excellent service to Irwin Mitchell’s clients.
Some of my daily duties include:
- Communicating with clients
- Preparing documents for court
- Taking witness statements
During my time here I’ve acted as a positive role model for other apprentices. I’ve also been nominated for CILEx National Apprentice of the Year, competing against others across the UK.
Irwin Mitchell’s apprenticeship scheme is a great way for people to gain experience in the legal sector without going to university. I definitely feel like I’ve made the right decision choosing to do an apprenticeship. I’m learning while gaining invaluable experience, and being given the chance to network with other legal professionals.
I’ve been an apprentice with Irwin Mitchell since September 2016, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it!
On top of my day-to-day role, I’ll soon be sitting a number of exams, and submitting pieces of coursework. I’m due to qualify as a paralegal in August 2018, after which I hope to undertake further studies with a view to qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive.
