Jack Sole - Apprentice Legal Executive

Background

I graduated from university in 2014 with a 2:1 degree. I knew that I wanted to work in the legal sector, but the problem I faced was that I didn’t have any professional experience.

In 2015 I got an administrator role at Irwin Mitchell, giving me the opportunity to get my foot in the door and experience a top tier law firm from the ground up.

Working at Irwin Mitchell

Fast forward two years and I’m now an Apprentice Legal Executive in the Court of Protection team, studying to qualify with CILEx Law School. I now have my own caseload to manage as well as assisting with the rest of our client files.

All the while, I’m studying my first practice module in preparation for the exam. The idea of studying whilst working full time is still quite daunting, but the CILEx apprenticeship is organised so that 20% of my working week must be devoted to off-the-job training, which includes study time. Irwin Mitchell are always happy to allow me this time.

With an apprenticeship I can continue working in the area of law that I enjoy, to hone my knowledge and skills and to qualify in a timely manner. Having a Law degree, I get exemptions from certain CILEx modules, so can progress to Chartered Legal Executive status more quickly than the traditional route.

Looking Ahead

Over the next three years I’ll complete my compulsory practice modules, and spend the necessary time doing legal work, all of which I need to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive.
