Tom Branson - Apprentice Client Financial Administrator

When I left college I spent four years working in hospitality. I really enjoyed the administrative side of this business, so I applied for a job in car sales.

I discovered I had a talent for understanding and explaining financial data to others. I knew then I wanted to pursue a career in accounting.

I’m fortunate to have friends who work in finance so I discussed with them how I might gain entry into the sector. On their advice, I started researching my options.

Irwin Mitchell stood out as a top law firm with national recognition, and they have an excellent reputation as an employer that invests in its people. I applied and was accepted onto an AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Apprenticeship.

Working at Irwin Mitchell

I was welcomed into the firm and have been supported during my time here. After only four months, I’ve gained experience in a range of activities including processing invoices, managing client accounts and analysing financial data to support lawyers in building their cases.

I enjoy working independently, but I also appreciate being able to work with and learn from a supportive team. They also encourage me to continue my studies towards my AAT Level 2 qualification.

Looking Ahead

I’m pleased to be have been given the chance to gain qualifications in my chosen field and my aim is to continue with further education.

My ambition is to qualify as an accountant and I hope to become a head accountant one day.

After my apprenticeship I’d welcome the chance to continue working for Irwin Mitchell. I’d like to be able to coach and support others in the same way I’ve benefited from my colleagues.
