Tim Thornton-Jones

Consultant

Biography

I am a Consultant within the Private Wealth in London. I specialise in private client tax planning, mainly for UK domiciled clients, both UK and non-UK resident, land owners, farmers, businessmen, entrepreneurs, sportsmen and entertainers, on heritage property; and also in the creation of private charities for wealthy philanthropists. I have also built a significant practice advising the ex-pat community in Monaco.

Before a merger with Irwin Mitchell, I was a founding partner of Berkeley Law.

What Inspired You To Get Into Law?

It was my father who persuaded me to read law at university. I originally thought I would become a barrister, but I had the luck to be introduced to my future boss, George Kenyon, at my father’s retirement party, and he invited me to see what a solicitors' firm was like and I never left. That firm was a tiny 2 partner firm in Lincolns Inn Fields that did nothing but Private client work. So, I've always stuck to that specialism.

What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect of Your Role?

I enjoy becoming a trusted adviser, not only in legal matters, but in really getting to know the clients and their families and being able to advise them of what will work for them in their particular circumstances.

What Do You Do Away From The Office?

When I am away from the office I enjoy shooting, golf, sailing, opera, theatre and being a grandfather.
