Petra Edwards

I qualified as a Solicitor in 2000, specialising in property and conveyancing law. I went onto qualify as a Notary Public in 2008, appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury. I work primarily in the Gatwick office, but my notarial practice also covers Brighton and Hove.

What Inspired You To Get Into Law?

I find the challenge of dealing with jurisdictions outside the UK makes notarial work varied and exciting. The profession is one of the oldest in the world tracing its roots back to Roman times, and whilst we live in a world driven by technology, it is quite comforting to go back to basics with ink seals and ribbon!

What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?

Notarial work is very transactional but I recently helped a couple to get married in Montenegro. The paperwork required some lateral thinking but we were eventually able to satisfy the relevant authority and the clients sent me pictures of their beautiful wedding - it was satisfying to know I had been instrumental in helping the couple get to that point. But I have also helped companies tendering for work in places such as Iraq and Kazakhstan - all interesting and with its own set of little challenges.
