This incident has understandably had quite an impact on Mrs O’Brien from both a physical and psychological point of view.
"The feeling of being out of control and trapped in the security barriers was both painful and terrifying for Karen, who feared the barriers would not stop closing on her, and we are delighted to have secured a settlement for her to cover her pain and suffering, as well as covering the cost of the care and assistance she needed after the incident.
"Hopefully, lessons can be learned from this event and the subsequent report, which recommended a more proactive approach from Customer Service Assistants in advising passengers to use wide gates wherever necessary so nobody else will have to go through the same thing as Mrs O’Brien."
This attack, which came completely out of the blue, has naturally had a massive impact on Miriam and it was a terrifying experience for her to go through.
“The incident has left her with an acute fear of dogs, which has a considerable impact on her life as she lives in an area that is popular with dog walkers. Miriam is the latest in a long line of people to have their lives turned upside down as a result of the physical and psychological trauma of such an attack and it highlights the dangers that some dogs can pose.
“Thankfully in this case the dog owner had suitable insurance to cover Miss Spencer’s injuries and she has been able to access the counselling she now needs to help her overcome the attack. Sadly many victims of dog attacks are faced with a more difficult legal challenge. We have repeatedly called for compulsory insurance and a register of dog owners so that all victims of dog bites are able to secure the support they need.”
We are delighted to be able to host this event of our Birmingham offices in on September 27th. It is vital those who suffer with tinnitus are able to attend events such as this that aims to help them deal with their condition.
“Through our work we have seen the damage tinnitus can do to those affected by it. It can be extremely frustrating for sufferers, as well as their friends and family, and it is crucial these events take place to enable people to discuss their condition with other sufferers and get help and advice from experts.”
The injuries Michael sustained due to his fall could have been avoided if the proper action had been taken by Starcrest Properties to ensure that the area was safe for the general public to use. The steps were in poor repair and there was inadequate lighting - it was an accident waiting to happen.
“We are pleased that we received a full admission of responsibility from the company and that lessons have been learnt to rectify the condition of the area to ensure the future safety of the general public.”
