I am a Client Liaison Manager at Irwin Mitchell. As Client Liaison Manager, it's my job to assist clients who have sustained an injury, as well as providing support and information to their families. I work alongside our solicitors to help clients and families deal with the “non-legal” problems they face.
Before working for Irwin Mitchell I worked as an advisor in a vocational rehabilitation setting with adults with varied and complex disabilities. I have also worked as an Assistant Psychologist in a multi-disciplinary team within a brain injury rehabilitation unit, and have experience of working with individuals with learning disabilities and mental health settings.
For some clients, the pathway to recovery can be long and daunting. In addition to the trauma of their injuries, there can be many other obstacles to overcome. There are numerous unfamiliar professionals to deal with including doctors, nurses, and other medical specialists. Then there are therapists, social workers, specialist teachers and solicitors. There is a whole new language to learn, including complex medical and legal jargon, most of which is completely unfamiliar.
My job is to provide practical help and professional advice to individuals and their families to help them make sense of the whole process. I am able to explain how services and individuals work and interact with each other, and how they can help the injured person. I offer support with day to day issues such as budgeting, welfare benefits, coping strategies and support with rehabilitation and education issues.
I can provide support and education to the family regarding the implications of the client's injuries and their new situation. I am able to liaise with local services, professionals and agencies in relation to on-going care and education programs and how best to meet the individual's needs.
