Deborah Roome

Our associated firm, Irwin Mitchell LLP, was established on 26 April 2011. I am an associate team manager working as part of Irwin Mitchell LLP's Glasgow Insurance Management team. I head up the Esure in-house team which is located in-house at the Glasgow Esure office. My team's primary role is to act as a recovery agent for Esure and their clients, specifically dealing with claimant road traffic litigation work.

As a manager of a busy team my role includes all aspects of performance management, ensuring all SLA's are being achieved and all work is carried out to a high standard.

What Inspired You To Get Into Law?

I had been working in the insurance industry for approximately nine years and having dealt with personal injury cases up to litigation I decided I want to know what happened next.

I joined Golds Solicitors in 2006 as a PI team leader. In 2007 Golds merged with Irwin Mitchell and I moved to the Esure in-house team before becoming an associate in 2008.

What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?

I enjoy being able to work closely with the client in their office. This allows me to understand their day to day needs and helps my team deliver a good service to them. No two days are ever the same and the client keeps me on my toes.

The opportunity's that come along with managing a group of people, helping them to achieve their individual goals/objectives, as well as developing team members and helping them aspire to reach their potential and making sure the team performs well overall is a major reward to me.

What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?

Since joining the firm in 2006 I have seen my career develop from PI team leader to associate team manager. Without the support of my line manager and the training I have received, as well as my own hard work and determination I wouldn't have achieved the level in the firm where I am now. I enjoy working for a major law firm which has a first class reputation.

In addition I like that fact that Irwin Mitchell give something back to the community via their Corporate Social Responsibility program.

What Do You Do Away From The Office?

Away from the office I enjoy travelling. Whether it is in Scotland or further afield, anywhere that is new to me is an adventure.
