Leading national law firm Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth has this week been named the leading private client litigation firm by The Lawyer magazine.

The law firm’s Private Wealth division, which was recently named as a top-tier firm by eprivateclient, was revealed to be involved in the most high-profile court cases across a three-year period by The Lawyer’s litigation tracker.

Since the tracker's creation three years ago, Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth has been noted as the most active firm in picking up private client work, acting in four qualifying cases in that period – double the number handled by other competitors, according to the tracker.

Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth has gone from strength to strength in recent months, having most recently been involved in the successful and high-profile family law case of Hart v Hart and Gibney v Gibney, which appeared in the Court of Appeal and Birkenhead Court in 2018 respectively.

National Head of Family Law Ros Bever was involved with the landmark Roocroft and Ball case, involving a cohabiting same-sex couple where the deceased had hidden assets. Ros was also successful in the Supreme Court when the law firm represented two wives - Varsha Gohil and Alison Sharland – who challenged their divorce settlements after their husbands were found to have misled them significantly regarding their wealth.

The Private Wealth’s well-regarded Will, Trust and Estate Disputes team, which is the largest national team in the UK, has also contributed to its number one ranking from The Lawyer magazine with the high-profile case of Joy Williams who successfully appealed to claim on her deceased cohabiting partner’s estate.

The firm has also invested heavily in the last year in recruiting talented individuals to join the Private Wealth division across the country, most recently appointing a new London-based commercial director, Tony Bogle; a new Manchester-based family law partner, Katie McCann; and a new Birmingham-based will disputes partner, Jonathan Gist.
