Irwin Mitchell Provides Funding As Part Of Don’t Quit, Do It Campaign

A disability sport initiative in Scarborough has secured vital new equipment after Irwin Mitchell provided a funding boost as part of its continued commitment to promoting the benefits of being active.

Formed in 2014, Scarboccia is a non-profit organisation focused on increasing awareness of and participation in the sport of Boccia, a sport similar to bowls which can be played by wheelchair users.

The club has now received a £400 grant from Irwin Mitchell which it has put towards the purchase of a range of new equipment, including an iPad Mini for both administration purposes and to support training.

Irwin Mitchell has provided the financial support as part of its Don’t Quit, Do It initiative to encourage participation in disability sport – a campaign which is backed by multiple gold medal-winning Paralympian Hannah Cockroft MBE.

Linda Clarke-Irons, chairwoman of Scarboccia, said: “This new equipment will be invaluable to us in a range of ways. The iPad Mini will help us train in accordance with Boccia England rules and also assist with recording meeting minutes and our overall recordkeeping. Our new training cones will also help with target practice and ensure our players can develop their skills.

“We are hugely grateful for the support from Irwin Mitchell and it is fantastic to see such an organisation doing everything it can to showcase how disability sport can help so many people.”

The Don’t Quit, Do It grant programme from Irwin Mitchell offers individuals, disability sport charities and groups an opportunity to apply for help with the cost of training, equipment or participation in major events. Since its launch it has provided more than £50,000 to a range of different projects in the UK.

Irwin Mitchell is a proud supporter of disability sport and has partnerships with the England Amputee Football Association, Boccia England and a host of other related organisations. Furthermore, last year the firm was the Official Legal Services Provider of the World Para Athletics Championships in London and a supporter of the Superhero Series held at Dorney Lake in Windsor.
