Sky Dive Was A Fundraiser For The Charity Rowan

A brave duo from the Cambridge office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell took part in a sky dive to help raise funds for local charity, Rowan. A charity and arts centre for people with learning disabilities.

The Irwin Mitchell pairing, Samantha Shaw and Katie Sinclair, jumped out of the plane at 10,000 feet above Sibson Airfield, Wansford.  The two were accompanied by Mirka Anderson, whose daughter, Emma, has been going to Rowan for 12 years.

“Although I was very nervous in the build up to the jump, knowing I was doing it to raise money for such a worthy cause helped me get to the door of the plane. Once I jumped, it was a tremendous experience and one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

“At Irwin Mitchell, we are delighted to be raising money for Rowan this year because we see first-hand the fantastic work that the charity does.

“Both Katie and I were overwhelmed before the jump when we went to visit the centre. We were amazed by the work that Rowan does, and we couldn’t think of a better cause to face our fears for.” Samantha Shaw - Senior Associate

Rowan, established in 1984, is based on Humberstone Road in Cambridge. The charity runs a number of studios including wood, ceramics, print, textiles, music and drama, and mixed media. The charity was established to help improved the lives of people with learning disabilities through the provision of services and meaningful activities.

Mirka, who lives in Bassingbourn, said: “Over the 12 years Emma has been going to Rowan, my admiration for the charity, and the work it does, has continued to grow. Emma really enjoys the workshops they put on and she has learnt and developed valuable skills attending them.”

The jump, which raised £620 for the charity so far, is not the only fundraising event the law firm will do for Rowan as the charity is the Cambridge office’s ‘Charity of the Year.’

Katie added: “The Cambridge office is delighted to be supporting Rowan this year. Everyone there has made us feel very welcome when we have visited the centre, and it is fantastic to be able to see the beautiful work the students at Rowan create.”
