Charity Set Up In Honour Of Relatives To Raise Money For Families Devastated By Murder
A mum who lost three relatives, including her son, in the Tunisia terror attack two years ago is organising a charity challenge to help other families devastated by murder.
Suzy Richards, from Wednesbury in the Midlands, lost her son Joel, dad Pat and brother Ade, during the attack. Since the tragedy she and her other son Owen have set up the Smile For Joel charity to raise funds to support and help families who are victims of traumatic bereavement through homicide.
The 2017 #runforjoel event will take place on Sunday and Suzy is urging participants to sign up. The event takes place at Sandwell Valley Country Park and those taking part can chose between a five or three kilometre walk or fun run, making the day suitable for all ages.
Suzy and other families whose relatives were killed in the atrocity have instructed specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to help them as they seek to overcome the trauma of what happened.
Kylie Hutchison, a specialist international personal injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing them, said:
Expert Opinion

“Despite her heartache Suzy is determined that the names of her son, dad and brother live on and she truly is an inspiration helping to raise funds to support others.” Kylie Hutchison - Senior Associate Solicitor
A total of 38 people, including 30 Britons, were killed when gunman Seifeddine Rezgui opened fire on guests staying at the Hotel Rui Imperial Marhaba near Sousse on June 26, 2015.
Irwin Mitchell represents the families of 22 people who were killed in the attack as well as many others who suffered injuries including gunshot wounds and shrapnel damage from exploded grenades.
Suzy said: “Smile For Joel runs in honour of my son Joel Richards, my brother Adrian Evans and my dad Pat Evans and all those that never came home after the terrorist attack in Tunisia. It raises money for Victim Support, supporting families who become victims of murder and terrorism by offering essential emotional and practical support.
“It’s so difficult to come to terms with losing loved ones and it’s important that help is on hand to help others who may be suffering. Sadly I know first-hand how hard it can be which is why I am determined to help other families affected by tragedy.
“Last year this fantastic event won The Black Country Community event of the year and this run is set to be even better so make sure you don’t miss out.”
