Inspirational Evening Promotes Dan White’s Department Of Ability
Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton office have shown their support to help a disability campaigner achieve his dream of seeing his children’s comic book published.
The law firm’s Medical Negligence team hosted an Evening of Inspiration as part its ongoing support for Dan White.
Dan, of Fareham, gave up his job to set up the Department of Ability following the birth of his daughter Emily, who was diagnosed with spina bifida, because he found a lack of positive media coverage about disability.
He has produced a comic book in which Emily, aged 12, is part of the superhero gang which make up the “Department of Ability”. All of the gang were “born to be different, born to save the world”.
Irwin Mitchell organised the evening at Southampton Solent University’s campus in East Park Terrace at which Dan spoke about how the idea for the Department of Ability came about. He also spoke about his experience as the parent of a disabled child and his work to get his comic published as well as encouraging inclusion across every aspect of society for people with disabilities.
Fellow campaigner and actress Sam Renke, Irwin Mitchell clients and representatives from various charities were also in attendance.
